Welcome to the patch notes for Sunken Shadows v0.6.15! We managed to get a lot done during the duration of the 32bit Spring Cleaning Jam 2024.

The larger new features are:

• Added support for multiple biomes, first look at the coral reef biome.
• Three new enemies for the coral reef (Puffer fish, squid and coral mimic).
• An interactive tutorial that explains the controls and main gameplay mechanics.
• Completely overhauled dungeon generator that allows for rooms of arbitrary sizes and with different door positions. This allows us to have more variety and verticality in the dungeon.
• Created shop rooms. You can finally spend the gold that you collect from enemies and chests! For now you can buy upgrades and health containers there, but in the next update we’ll also have consumable items like potions and more. There is also a friendly shop keeper NPC which will be delighted when you buy the items that he has for sale.
• New minimap system for a treasure map like appearance and support for the new dungeon generator.
• Completely overhauled main menu and settings menu UI.
• More sound effects for lots of actions.
• Performance optimization. We finished our mesh baking solution that converts the grid maps into static meshes, removing any of the hidden faces and improving frame rates a lot on lower end machines. We also added support for FSR upsampling, which you can enable in the settings.
• More polish on the player controller. There are now particle effects when you hit the ground at a high velocity. There is also a camera spring that improves the feel of this impact, and the falling velocity has been increased when holding Control (or B on the controller).
• Improved octopus boss fight with the ability to throw rocks at the player and dealing contact damage. Also made it transition to the second biome once the octopus is defeated.
